Job Interview

LINKEDIN

Complete and Optimize Your Profile to Increase Your Interview Rate

LinkedIn Quick Tips

LinkedIn is a primary tool for executive recruiters to search for candidates. We cannot understate the importance of using LinkedIn today for any candidate and using your “dashboard” to open yourself to new opportunities. The more complete and optimized your profile is, the better the odds that recruiters will find you. Click here for a helpful tip sheet (PDF) on how to get the most out of LinkedIn.

LinkedIn Premium Career: You may also want to explore this additional service during your search, as it helps you make connections and find a new position. It is $30 a month and well worth it (you will get more exposure to available jobs and recruiters, you can use InMail, plus you can see who has been looking at your profile). The first month is usually at no charge. Click here for a helpful article that explains the benefits of LinkedIn Premium.

YOUR RESUME

Optimizing Your Resume and Example

A resume or CV has one primary purpose: to highlight your qualifications and experiences enough to get you an interview and begin the process of getting your next position. Thus, your resume needs to be focused, clear, consistent, and impactful. It also needs to be accurate and real.  Click here for an example of a sales executive resume (PDF) that you can also tailor for other positions.

At BEST, we have an extensive library of successful resume examples. Please contact us for additional examples by position (executive level, finance, management, marketing, operations, sales, restructuring, and more).

We have seen this format be successful; it covers the essential keywords; it lays out well and includes many metrics. It also tells a story. When it comes to resumes, people have a good idea of the responsibilities a person had based on their position or title, but how they made an impact is significant (anything that can be expressed by a % or $).

For People Who Want to Write Resumes Good

Click here for our article on resume writing. Writing a resume or CV today can be frustrating and time-consuming, especially for those out of practice or starting from scratch. As our tongue-in-cheek title suggests, it is easy to stumble in this area. We have seen brilliant marketers and salespeople struggle for days to put together a 1- or 2-page sheet of their career experiences and qualifications, essentially about selling themselves. They are not alone.

Resume Writing Guidance:

The BEST Team understands that every person has unique resume writing and job searching demands. For example, a grower likely will need different resume guidance than a high-level sales executive. Contact us for assistance in developing your resume. Our BEST advisors are open to providing additional resume examples and reviewing your resume.

YOUR INTERVIEW

The BEST Interview Preparation Guide

It may have been a while since your last interview, or you may be interviewing for the first time in a different format (via phone or virtually). Our BEST Interview Preparation Guide (PDF) is a comprehensive guide that takes a candidate through interviewing step-by-step from initial preparation to the thank you note.

An interviewer has just one objective: to decide whether or not to make you a job offer. He or she is also interested in evaluating your level of motivation, values, attitude, and personality. In other words, to find out if you’re the right person for the job, what your potential is for promotion, and whether or not you will fit the company culture. While it’s true that an interview is an essential screening tool for companies, it is also an important tool for you as a candidate.

PHONE INTERVIEWING: 12 Smart Phone Interview Success Tips (PDF)

Typically, the first contact a candidate will have with a recruiter or potential employer today is via the phone. The goal of a telephone interview is to secure an invitation to come to the employer’s location for an in-person interview. You typically have just two assets for telephone interviews – your voice and your preparation!

VIRTUAL INTERVIEWING: Succeeding in a Virtual Interview for Candidates (PDF)

Video interviewing and even onboarding have been increasing in popularity. These are useful tips for being interviewed virtually: Zoom? Teams? Google Meet?  FaceTime? BlueJeans? Be prepared.
